Corporate Information
Canon is a world leading manufacturer of office multifunction devices, copying machines, laser and inkjet printers, cameras, and lithography equipment. Canon products are sold globally through subsidiaries with 80.8% of sales derived outside of Japan in 2013.
Canon’s R&D investments range on a spectrum from “basic research to product-oriented research directed at maintaining and increasing Canon’s technological leadership in the marketplace”.
Manufacturing takes place mainly in Japan. In an effort to decrease operational risk related to exchange rate risk and the cost of manufacturing, Canon uses flexible production to shift production outside of Japan in order to decrease costs as well as source locally.
Canon takes corporate social responsibility seriously. Their corporate philosophy is kyosei, which Canon defines as “living and working together for the common good”. A few activities Canon takes to protect the environment are recycling, using clean energy sources, and creating cleaner manufacturing processes. They also have a program for collecting and recycling ink cartridges and refurbishing copying machines. Canon has removed practically all “environmentally unfriendly chemicals from its manufacturing processes”.
